The historical background of the Chinatown makes it an unrepeatable tourist pole in Cuba. The sedimentation and transculturation that has taken place in more than 200 years is the fact that it grants it the character of exclusivity that characterizes it and distinguishes it as a center of interest for foreign and national visitors. This site acquires a particular taking into account that the year the celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the City.
The project The Yellow City - Chinatown of Havana, is established from the approval of the Council of the Municipal Administration and under the regulations provided by the State, for self-employment. It will be subordinated to the interests of the community where it is located, for which it will maintain close collaboration with the corresponding state entities.
The proposal to the Council of the Municipal Administration is to Constitute a Community Social Project called La Ciudad Amarilla - Chinatown of Havana, which would have as its essential purpose:
- Contribute to the resuscitation of the elements that grant to the Chinese District of Havana, infinity of values that make it a transcendent and unrepeatable tourist pole.
- Encourage the restoration of a significant area in the city center, without the state only having to disburse financing, increasing tourist and cultural values.
- Reanimate an area of the city just at a time when the capital is preparing to commemorate its 500th anniversary.
- Improve the standard of living for a considerable number of families and the creation of dozens of new jobs.
Among the proposed actions is the restoration of a cinema to convert it into a theater with regular programming; create an art gallery and a plastic production workshop, support the sports units of Chinatown; and revive the Chinese Societies that are in the Barrio.
