With a view to the referendum of the new Constitution of the Republic of Cuba, which will take place on February 24, the Provincial Electoral Commission of Havana was constituted today.

In the presence of the members of the Central Committee Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the capital, and Reinaldo Garcia Zapata, president of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power (APPP), the solemn ceremony was held in which the 15 members of the commission ratified their oath of loyalty to the Fatherland.

Also before Alina Balseiro Gutiérrez, president of the National Electoral Commission, as well as other leaders of the government and mass organizations of the territory, they also committed themselves to observe and make observe, in the exercise of their functions, the Constitution, the Electoral Law and other regulations that govern the electoral process.

Likewise, they expressed their desire to comply in time, with professionalism, discipline and demand for their activities, and to offer the pertinent information with truthfulness and punctuality.

Roberto Alejandro Cárdenas Santos chairs the commission, while Luis Carlos Oquendo Pi is the vice president, and Carmen Diana Casamayor Leon, the secretary.

Garcia Zapata pointed out that after months of intense work and a massive process of popular consultation, the decisive moment of the people's vote is approaching.

He affirmed that the Magna Carta approved by the deputies of the National Assembly of the People's Power last December is modern, "tempered to the country that we live and want".

The Provincial Electoral Commission assumes the organization, direction and validation of the process, as well as ensuring compliance, sentenced the president of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power in the capital.

He announced that in the coming days the municipal, district and special commissions will take possession of their positions; and explained that university students and middle school students will participate as collaborators in the process.

The referendum will take place in the year of the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the Villa de San Cristóbal de La Habana, and without a doubt will be one of its main moments; your results, we are convinced, will constitute a gift from the people to your beloved city, said the president of the APPP.
