The II Encuentro "Conocer la habanera" continues with its purpose of promoting the patrimonial meaning of the genre as one of the universal exponents of Cuban music. Following the trail of the past Encuentro, the current one includes concerts and a theoretical event.
This event has as a matrix of essence, to know more deeply, the social and cultural conditions that favored the emergence of one of the most important artistic manifestations of Cuban culture that gave as fruits later, as I accurately point Alejo Carpentier, talking about Manuel Saumell, the "danzpn (La Tedezco), of the guajira (second of La Matilde), of the clave (La Celestina), of the criolla (second of La Nene), and of certain modalities of the Cuban song (second of Recuerdos sad). "
That is why we can say that habanera is the first Cuban musical genre. The influence of the habanera, the so-called tango rhythm -which is not the only rhythm of the habanera- transcends the borders of Cuba and Spain, generating new ways of expressing what jazz or tango might be like.
La Habanera is shown as a popular, lyrical and concert expression, not only in Cuba, but also in Spain or France. This year we have important news, such as the participation of the National Symphony Orchestra or a gala dedicated to the popular side.
In the scientific session prestigious scholars of the XIX century Cuban will continue the investigation of the roots of the habanera in our Cuba and the situation of the same in France or Spain.
We hope that this edition will meet the expectations of the public that to this day continues to bear fruit to the study and deepening of the origin of this Cuban genre such as habanera.
