Promoting the patrimonial meaning of this musical genre (originated in Cuba in the first half of the 19th century), as one of the universal exponents of the music of the island, is the purpose of the event that will take place in different areas of the city.

The concerts are the highlight of the event in which the French duo Pour le Plaisir, the Spanish soprano Indira Ferrer and their co-pianists Manuel Ruiz and the castañuelista Carlos Murias will be presented as guests.

On the island stand out the performances of the Cuban sopranos Johana Simón and Bárbara Llanes, the presentation of the National Symphony Orchestra, and a gala dedicated to the popular side of the genre.

In addition to the recitals, the program includes a theoretical event in which specialists will investigate the roots of the habanera in Cuba and the situation of it in France and Spain.

According to Cuban pianist and musicologist Cecilio Tieles, manager of the event, Conocer la habanera seeks to create a space for exchange that, as an intercultural bridge, fosters the study and research of gender in various countries.

In this edition, he said, the habanera will be shown as a popular, lyrical and concert expression.

The Covarrubias Room of the National Theater, the National Museum of Fine Arts, the America Theater and the Aula Magna of the San Gerónimo University College will be the venues of the event organized by the National Museum of Music in collaboration with other institutions.
