Thousands of students and young Cubans marched today, as every November 27, from the Stairway of the University of Havana to the esplanade of La Punta, where eight medical students were shot in 1871 for facing Spanish colonialism.
Almost a century and a half later, the new generations of Cubans maintain their rebellion and rejection of any type of affront to their country.
After four o'clock in the afternoon today the crowd began to walk in a combative march, which opened with eight giant Cuban flags and in which the university students were accompanied by students from the upper secondary level of education, young workers and fighters and those who wanted to join .
As always, the Medical Sciences students led the demonstration, which closed with 147 tricolor signs, one for each year since the ill-fated afternoon in which Anacleto Bermudez, Carlos de la Torre, Alonso Alvarez, Angel Laborde, Jose de Marcos Medina were killed. , Eladio Gonzalez, Pascual Rodriguez and Carlos Verdugo.
Our action will be a cry of repudiation of that atrocious crime.
This year's march coincided with the threats and provocations of the elected president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, which triggered the departure of Cuban professionals from the Más Médicos program.
The march of the youth and students also served to send a message of rejection to anyone who doubts the quality of the training of Cuban professionals.
Honor guards followed one another early in the monument to the eight medical students, who will be honored by the "new pines", on behalf of the entire Cuban people, in the mausoleum that keeps their remains in the necropolis of Christopher Columbus.
