Achieving better results in sanitation actions within the 15 municipalities of the capital is the main objective of the comprehensive sanitation work in Havana, which also "respond to collect the largest amount of solid waste," says Onelio Ojeda López, Provincial Director of Communal Services, who also clarifies that the city has an approximate generation of more than 23,000 cubic meters (m3) of garbage daily.
The conditions allow an average of 19 500 m3 to be collected every day and, based on the need to remove the rest, the participation of state agencies is called, linking them to territories for systematic cleaning work.
The day of intensive sanitation began in October and the intention is to do it once or twice a month, depending on the conditions of the city. "For example, on November 9, 22,000 m3 of waste were collected and on the 10th the collector trucks of the Provincial Hygiene Department went directly to the municipalities, where other trucks joined them," added the provincial director of Communal Services.
