The ghost will open the spring season of the Spanish Ballet of Cuba

The Spanish Ballet of Cuba (BEC) will begin its spring season with the presentation of the play El fantasma las días 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and March 30 in the Sala García Lorca of the Gran Teatro Alicia Alonso de La Habana.

Eduardo Veitía, director of the company, explained at a press conference held at the Packard Hotel, that it is a free version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical brought to the new flamenco of Cuba by Alejandro Valdés, director of the Palo de Agua group.

He assured that without departing from the thematic axis of the original Phantom of the opera, premiered by the BEC 18 years ago, the public will be able to enjoy a novel proposal, made with much love and wonderful music, renewed choreography and costumes.

He indicated that this version consists of two acts and 15 scenes, in which the story of a sensitive man is told that although he was marked by fate, he can love with intensity and is capable of sacrificing himself for the person he loves.

Veitía highlighted the support received by the Ministry of Culture, National Council of the Performing Arts, Gran Teatro de La Habana, the Embassy of Spain in Cuba and the Packard Hotel in the assembly of the work, which will be taken to a great tour of China and other countries.

The creator of this version, Alejandro Valdés, pointed out that El Fantasma is a very good musical, with a well-known and beautiful language, which was not difficult to take him to contemporary Cuban flamenco, and for that reason he feels satisfied and hopes that the public too.

On the support provided by the Packard Hotel, its general director Alejandro Barrios, said that responds to one of the lines of work of the Spanish chain Iberostar, in charge of the administration, which promotes cultural tourism.
