The XIII edition of the Biennial of Havana, recognized among the most notorious events in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the world, will be held from April 12 to May 12 of the current year, under the title "The construction of the possible" .
The event, which has made visible the contemporary Cuban artistic thought and evolution, of the Global South and other regions of the world, proposes to encourage the interaction between creators, curators, experts and institutions, in a plurality of art processes that provide variations of sustainability, without moving away from the propositive nature that all artistic work represents, informed Marlene E. Sánchez Márquez, Communication Director of the event.
This edition has more than 300 guests with individual and collective projects, artists from 52 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Central America and the Caribbean, South America, North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
According to Sánchez Márquez, the presence in the curatorial payroll of nine National Prizes for Practical Arts - the highest distinction within the visual arts in Cuba - such as Manuel Mendive, Roberto Fabelo, René Francisco Rodríguez, José Manuel Fors, José Villa Soberón, stands out. Pedro de Oraá, Pedro Pablo Oliva, Eduardo Ponjuán and José A. Toirac.
At 35 years of its creation and in its XIII edition, the Biennial continues betting on the promotion of young artists and their new forms of conceptualization and production of art, adds the official.
He says that important representatives of the intellectual sphere such as Ticio Escobar, from Paraguay, and Boaventura de Souza Santos, from Portugal, the Senegalese critic Babacar Mbow, the Colombian writer Carlos Jauregui; among others that endorse the importance of the meeting.
The Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center, the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso, the University of the Arts (ISA), the Malecón Habanero with its project Behind the Wall, the Chullima Workshop, the Galería Fábrica Havana, the Center for the Development of Visual Arts, among other prestigious institutions, will host multiple proposals of high aesthetic and conceptual value, ample reasons for those who love contemporary art in its most diverse ways and allow them to join the enriching dynamic of this event.
In this way it allows a participative-reflexive interaction between groups and emerging practices, national and international institutions, even between different schemes of art circulation, located in more than 30 spaces that extend, for the first time, beyond the capital limits and It is inserted in the provinces of Matanzas, Pinar del Río, Cienfuegos and Camagüey.
Like each edition, the collateral samples are added to the exhibition circuit, further diversifying the artistic panorama, through collective, personal, two-person proposals, interventions in public spaces and artists' workshops. Institutions such as the San Alejandro National Academy of Fine Arts, the Casa de las Américas, the René Portocarrero Graphic and Serigraph Experimental Workshops, just to mention a few, add to this praiseworthy endeavor.
