Cuba in the voice and song of a woman, by Mayra A. Martínez, published by Editorial Oriente, will be presented on Wednesday, March 13, at four in the afternoon, at the Librería Fayad Jamís, at Obispo 261 between Cuba and Aguiar, in the Historic Center of Havana.
In this meeting, the author will talk with the journalist and critic Fernando Rodríguez Sosa, and actress Algeria Fragoso, one of the creators that appears in the pages of this book, in two volumes, offers an enriching look at the work of recognized Cuban composers and performers of the twentieth century.
The title includes essays and articles that analyze the scope and transcendence of women's art in Cuban popular music and 17 interviews are published, among them Ela Calvo, Ela O'Farrill, Concha Valdés Miranda, Las Diego, Gina León, Beatriz Márquez, Lourdes Torres and Argelia Fragoso.
Cuba in the voice and song of women - affirms the poet, researcher and screenwriter of radio and television Sigfredo Ariel- will become a useful reference and reference book, as well as being a pleasant journey through the authorial and interpretative work of admired figures and loved by audiences of several generations.
Although it is a common phrase, often used indiscriminately, I am sure that this volume does come to fill a gap in the attention and examination of the important female presence in Cuban culture. And it will fill it up, emphasizes.
Journalist, researcher and photographer, Mayra A. Martínez -who was born in Havana, in 1952- published, in 1993, the book Cubanos en la música and, in 2015, a first reduced version of Cuba in voice and song of woman.
