The Cuban intensivists have a great desire to excel, to offer a better treatment to patients, save them and guarantee a higher quality of life, despite the blockade that the successive US governments have against Cuba. and which severely affects public health.

This was stated by the Doctor of Sciences Pedro Luis Véliz Martínez, President of the Cuban Society of Intensive and Emergency Medicine and the organizing committee of Urgrav 2019, which ended today at the Havana Convention Center with more than 250 delegates of about 15 countries

The physician exemplified that as a result of that hostile policy when a team breaks it is very difficult to replace it, but many are repaired or reused with all hygienic sanitary and biosafety conditions, in order to guarantee the attention of the patients.

He told the Cuban News Agency that currently the existing structure in the country is sufficient and make up 109
intensive therapies and 120 intensive municipal areas. The latter are small spaces that have 2 to 4 beds
where the patient is treated before moving it to conventional areas in a range of 6 to 8 hours.

Véliz Martínez described as successful the VIII International Congress of Emergencies and Intensive Care, which became a space of unity and homogenization of the processes and professional competences.

The integration of Cuba into the Latin American Association of Pre-Hospital Care was also announced, which gave Véliz Martínez recognition for the brilliant organization of Urgrav 2019.

At the closing ceremony, the Cuban Society of Intensive Care Medicine and Emergencies recognized a group of units with the best results in the application and development of the Multicenter Project for the Reduction of Nosocomial Infections in Intensive Care Units (ICU).

The Doctor of Sciences Albadio Pérez Assef, head of the National Group of Intensive and Emergency Medicine and president of the scientific committee of the congress, presented the best papers presented that received the Doctor Sergio Antonio Rabell Hernández and Doctor Awards Enrique Guzmán Rodríguez.
