The work in commissions to analyze issues such as the role of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) and its mobilizing function in the context of updating the economic model, will be the main activity of the organization today female face to its X Congress.

The meeting that brings together about 360 delegates and 40 guests, between March 6 and 8, will also have as its axis of debate gender equality in family and society, youth as a guarantee of the continuity of the FMC, and issues of internal order.

At a press conference, Teresa Amarelle Boué, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and secretary general of the FMC, announced the holding of a conference on the updating of the Cuban economic model and the implementation of the guidelines, and referred that in the context of the appointment there will be exchanges between the provincial and capital delegates.

He said that on March 7 there will be a plenary session, the discussion of the central report, the presentation of the National Committee of the FMC and the recognition of the vanguard and prominent provinces; and that on the 8th there will be a declaration of solidarity with the women of the world regarding the date, in addition to the closing ceremony.

He noted that some pre-congress activities have been carried out, such as the tribute to the grandmothers in all the cities of the country and the delivery of the orders Ana Betancourt and Mariana Grajales, to 20 and 5 women respectively.

Teresa Amarelle Boué pointed out some advances of the organization between the IX and the X Congress, among which is the overcoming of all indicators in terms of the level of female participation in the leadership and seats of parliament.

Other relevant aspects have been the annual incorporation to the FMC of at least 56 thousand young people aware of the relevance of the organization, the fact that several girls are general secretaries, and the formation of multidisciplinary family care teams.

Added to this, he said, is the application in 2016 of the National Equality Survey, which among its main results includes that 96 percent of the sample recognize that in Cuba there are equal rights and opportunities.
