The National Symphony will open Drum Festival with a tribute to percussion

The performance of the ensemble, set for 3:30 p.m., local time, at its usual venue in the Covarrubias hall of the National Theater, will be dedicated to percussion in classical music and dance.

In the recital, the training directed by its owner, maestro Enrique Pérez Mesa, will have as special guests the American pianist and composer Joachim Horsley, the Canadian percussion quartet Repercussion and the dance company Habana Compas Dance Junior.

The event, which is attended by renowned artists from various countries, is dedicated to Spain and the 500th anniversary of the founding of the Villa de San Cristóbal de La Habana.

The Spanish flamenco singer Diego El Cigala, the El Piraña drawer teacher, José Montaña and his compatriot Laura de los Ángeles, the Ketama group and the djs Patricia La Peruana and Ratón Rabioso, are some of the guests at the event.

Isaac Delgado, Alain Pérez, Samuel Formell and Los Van Van, Alexander Abreu and Havana D'primera, Pupy and those that Son and Anacaona, will be the local groups that will liven up the days.

The program of the meeting also includes concerts, master classes of casino and rumba, flamenco piano, guitar and cajón workshops in addition to the usual competitions.

Among the main venues are the Karl Marx Theater and its Atril room, the Mella Theater, the Rumba Hall, the Pink Room of the Tropical, the El Sauce cultural complex and the Cultural Center of 31 and 2, in El Vedado, Havana.
