The Museum of the Cuban Workers Palace of the Torcedores, the Central of Workers of Cuba, the Trabajadores newspaper, the Cuban Association of Artisans and Artists (Acaa), the Enmarcarte Project, of the Fund of Cultural Assets, presided by the creator of the plastic arts Erik Varela Ravelo, and the provincial company that sells music and shows Ignacio Piñero, call for the third edition of the Dance Contest of Danzón Lindas Cubanas.
Conceived in honor of the Cuban woman on the occasion of March 8, the 80th anniversary of the CTC and its 21 Congress, and the 140th anniversary of the creation of the danzón, National Dance of Cuba, the contest will take place on Sunday, March 10, at 5:00 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the Workers' Museum, National Monument.
Dancing dancers (couples of different ages) from all over the country, belonging or not to associated circles or groups of amateurs, will be able to participate, among which three prizes will be selected and as many mentions will be judged by the jury, which will be composed of recognized figures of the dance.
The event will also be co-sponsored by the Trade Union of Culture Workers (SNTC), the Ignacio Piñeiro Music and Entertainment Company, the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), the Community Work Office of Uneac and the Clubs Amigos del Danzón, belonging to the Movement of Amateur Artists and its subsidiary Havana.
The Trabajadores newspaper, the CTC, the SNTC, the FMC, the Community Work Office of the UNEAC, the Enmarcarte Project, the ACAA subsidiary in Matanzas, and the Ignacio Piñeiro Company will also award prizes.
The meeting, designed by the colleague and critic Jorge Rivas Rodríguez, artistic director of the Workers' Museum, is an initiative to defend and promote our national dance, by convening fans of this genre, who take on the contest as a challenge to their artistic gifts.
The institutions that will award collateral prizes will also give other acknowledgments.
The musical accompaniment for the execution of the dances will be in charge of the prestigious orchestras Hermanos Izquierdo, directed by maestro Joaquín Izquierdo, and El piquete tipico cubano, led by trumpeter Jorge Vistel Columbie.
