The fifth edition of the Havana Triathlon took place this Saturday, in both sexes, with the participation of more than half a thousand competitors from 35 countries.

The starting point was the Marina Hemingway -in the west of the city- and the emblematic National Hotel, near the popular Havanan Malecon.

According to Alejandro Puerto, president of the Cuban Federation of this sport, the presence of powerful triathletes from Mexico, the United States, Japan and Spain stands out.

Cuba, led by Leslie Amar and the male champion of the last two years, Michel González, was represented by 19 athletes in the Olympic modality.

For this occasion, assured Puerto, competed triathletes of higher quality than in previous versions, with which the fair reached greater prestige and competitiveness.

In total, 525 participants animated the fifth Triathlon of Havana. The contest contemplated the dispute of the Ibero-American Championship of medium distance (1.9 km of swimming, 90 of cycling and 21 of race), besides the sprint and average popular distance (750 m of swimming, 20 km on the bicycle and five of race ) and the Copa America (1.5 km of swimming, 40 of cycling and 10 of race), this last one awarded points for the ranking.

Once again the prizes that were given to the winners were original works of Cuban artists, among which stands out the National Prizes of plastic arts, Eduardo Roca 'Choco'.

On this occasion, the Triathlon joined the festivities for the 500 years of Havana.
