The XXIV Model of the United Nations in Havana, HAVMUN 2019, an event that simulates the sessions of that international organization, will be held in the capital between April 2 and 5.

According to the official announcement, on this occasion the academic appointment, in which Cuban university and pre-university students from other nations can participate, will be dedicated to the 60th Anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution, the 500th anniversary of the founding of the Villa de San Cristóbal de La Habana and the 30th anniversary of the approval of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The central theme of the meeting will be the Promotion of inclusive and sustainable economic and social growth for the reduction of inequality.

In this HAVMUN edition, the five regional commissions of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations Organization (ECOSOC), as well as three of its functional commissions, will be modeled in Spanish. The Executive Board of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Security Council, commissions that will also be simulated, will discuss their topics in French and English, respectively.

Cuba has been carrying out Models of the United Nations for 23 years, has great experience and has an Evaluating Committee formed by prestigious university professors, diplomats and specialists, who, together with the President of the commissions in each edition, awards the delegates who are distinguished by their participation.

The conclave came after the attendance of two students from the University of Havana to the event that, in 1995 and under the name of the Inter-American Model of the United Nations, convened the Morelos campus of the Monterrey Institute of Technology, a center that helped with the founding of the Model of the United Nations of the University of Havana (HAVMUN) in March of 1996, the first United Nations Model of the Island.

Held annually, this space of cultural and scientific exchange commits young people to respect for peace, free self-determination, integration and sovereignty of peoples. For students of higher education since 2010 HAVMUN is also a scientific teaching event that allows you to earn points for the academic index.
