National Academy of Mariana Song of Gonitch summon the Summer Course

Young people between 17 and 35 years old, interested in vocal art, may attend the auditions of the Summer Course that annually convenes the National Academy of Mariana de Gonitch.

Hugo Oslé Barraquizo, director of the school, informed that the auditions will be held next Thursday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the Balearic Center of Cuba, located on G street corner 23, Vedado.

In an interview given to Granma, the prominent singer and artistic director explained that in these tests the best voices are selected and kept in a pre-course, before starting the program of the Academy that lasts a year with several subjects, including of vocal technique, repertoire and interpretation.

"Our students learn singing but also receive a wide range of values, history, good taste. They receive interdisciplinary training, "he said.

The singer, teacher and artistic director in the 11 years of existence of the institution has developed an arduous work with the aim of keeping alive the legacy of the prominent Russian soprano and pedagogue, Mariana de Gonitch Justikaya, who was his teacher, as well as that of many other prominent Cuban interpreters.

Born on February 5, 1900 in St. Petersburg, Mariana de Gonitch arrived in Havana in 1940, where she dedicated herself to the teaching of singing and the development of lyrical art in Cuba until dying on January 14, 1993 in this same city that witnessed his artistic quality.
