From March 18 to 21, the III International Encounter of Exchange between Dance Academies will be held in Havana with the participation of Mexico, Colombia and Nicaragua. This was announced at a press conference by Lídice Garrido Arredondo, director of the National School of Dance.
With the aim of exchanging with specialists through artistic education and promoting and stimulating creation from the various languages of dance, a series of activities have been planned, including lectures by teachers such as Fidel Pajares, Rosario Cárdenas, Lidia Chacón, María del Carmen Mena, in addition to workshops designed on corporal preparation subjects: dance technique, classical ballet, folklore and choreographic creation, informed Garrido Arredondo.
Acosta Danza, Lizt Alfonso and the teaching units of Ballet Español are some of the professional companies that will participate in the event, whose central axis will be the exchange between specialists of the different dance genres.
Among the attractions of the meeting highlights the choreographic contest, which will involve more than 90 students from the country, from the five middle schools, in addition to foreign guests.
There are three genres that it contains: folkloric, contemporary and spectacle, two of the works are created by teachers and one by students, and groups of up to 12 members can be formed.
At the end of the competition a Grand Prix is awarded to that number that meets all the requirements: costumes, lighting design, music, interpretation and choreographic creation; Prizes are also awarded to the best female and male interpretation, revitalization of national identity and small formats, the board announced.
There are also other collateral contests such as the rumba and the improvisation, the latter is done in a personal way and a random theme is placed so that in two minutes the student defends a work created immediately, and demonstrates the skills acquired during the race.
Founded on March 24, 1965, the National Dance School was born as the fifth specialty of the National Art Schools and since then it has provided technical-methodological support to the entire network of specialized teaching centers in the country, through training to teachers, methodological visits, seminars and improvement courses.
