From today until March 10, the XVIII Edition of the "Guillermo Barreto in Memoriam" Drum Festival and International Festival will take place, which will have the Karl Marx Theater, Mella Theater, the Pink Room of La Tropical, Hotel Palco, Cultural Center. The prominent Cuban musician Giraldo Piloto, its president and founder, announced in a statement that the event will be dedicated to celebrating the 500th anniversary of Havana and that this 2019 will have Spain as the guest of honor, to celebrate the historic cultural ties between both Nations
With these motivations the meeting, according to its organizers, will reserve "pleasant surprises and the tremendous strength of the music and cultural heritage Spanish: flamenco, its percussion, dance and its miscegenation with the back and forth cantes that were created between both cultures. "
Among the Iberian artists invited is Rafael Ojeda Rojas, better known as Falete, who will delight audiences with his exceptional voice on the 6th, at the tribute to Spain Gala at the Karlos Marx Theater. That same night, he also reserves the presentation of the Cuban singer Emilio Frías and his orchestra "El niño y la verdad", among other artistic proposals.
Also the Spanish musicians Laura de los Ángeles, José Montaña and their flamenco project Cantes de Ida, the fusion jazz band Patax and the trio Ketama, integrated by Antonio, Juan and José Miguel Carmona will arrive with their art to the Drum Festival.
For its part, flamenco singer Diego Ramón Jiménez Salazar, popularly known as "El Cigala", will be present at the closing of the event at 3:30 p.m. at the Karl Marx Theater, where he will share the stage with salsa artist Issac Delgado and his Orchestra and the Muñequitos de Matanzas.
The main orchestras of popular Cuban dance music such as Alain Pérez and Los Van Van also participate in the contest; several of the most outstanding dance companies in the country, such as Irene Rodríguez; jazz groups, and folk groups.
This Monday begins with the eliminatory of the International Competition of Dance Casino and Rumba for Foreigners, at 10.00 am. in the Willow; at 3.30pm the concert "Percussion in classical music" will take place in the "Sala Avellaneda" of the National Theater, where the National Symphony Orchestra, Joachim Horsley (USA), the Répercussion group (Canada), Chantal Simard, Robert will perform Lepine, Luc Langlois, Aldo Mazza (Canada).
