Conferences, exhibitions, liturgical celebrations, a meeting of parish choirs and 11 workshops reserve the VI Week of Sacred Music of Havana that from this Sunday until March 3 will take place in the grounds of the Historic Center of Old Havana.
According to the catalog of the event, this edition distinguishes by a greater presence of Latin American musicians and of the autochthonous repertoires of their regions. Among them is the Venezuelan Gregorian chant master Mario G. Ojeda; the Mexican organist Agustín Mejía; and Matha P. Ramírez, singer of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Sofia of Mexico.
Another novelty is that for the first time the singer Katza Stuber, specialist in Baroque music and teacher of Regensburg, who will play as a concert and singing teacher, as well as Gabriela Czurlok, Polish organist and teacher of the Diocesan Institute of Sacred Music of Opole. , Poland.
The day also has the uniqueness of having two workshops dedicated to providing a historical and transcendental corpus on the psalms: the first destined to the interpretation of the choral repertoire based on the psalms, directed by the German teacher Kunibert Schäfer, and the second of composition, under the direction of also Teutonic teacher Katja Stuber.
On the other hand, the local ensembles of early music Ensemble Cantaible and Ars Nova will work in workshops and concerts repertoires of the Cuban Esteban Salas, the Jesuit missions and the Captaincy of Guatemala.
Among the remaining workshops, one of liturgical accompaniment and interpretation of the organ of the Johann Sebastian Bach repertoire stand out; the Interpretation to the Clavecín and another directed to the Direction and Choral Singing.
The program of the VI Week, inaugurated this Sunday, for this Monday foresees the realization of the V Encounter of Parochial Choirs in the Parish of the Holy Angel; the inauguration of the exhibition Regions of Faith, by photographer René A. Rodríguez in the courtyard of the Padre Félix Varela Cultural Center, and the usual concerts and academic spaces: workshops and conferences.
Organized by the Chair of Sacred Music of the Padre Félix Varela Cultural Center and the Catholic Institute of Sacred Music and Musical Pedagogy of Regensburg, the event includes the presentation in concert of more than 80 children and as many professional singers and parish choirs.
