ANTONIO MACEO PARK

In Havana is present, and tribute is paid to Major General Antonio Maceo y Grajales, great Cuban independence fighter of the 19th century. There is, for example, a large monumental complex in El Cacahual, where his remains rest and also in a large park identified with his first surname and that is located in the territory of the municipality Centro Habana.
The park is 400 meters long and 60 meters wide. The existing monument was inaugurated on May 20, 1916.
Four representative figures stand on the general platform: on the front, action and thought; behind is what represents justice and the law; Mariana Grajales, the mother of Maceo, is in relief on the front of the zócalo, making her children swear allegiance to the Fatherland, and behind it the Battle of Peralejo is symbolized. Around the shaft four large reliefs allude to different exploits of Antonio Maceo.
The Monument is crowned by the bronze equestrian statue, and granite base, by Antonio Maceo, who stands out with his military uniform and the machete in hand in an attitude of haranguing his soldiers to launch into combat.
